Literary Translator

Since graduating from University College London with a distinction in Danish over fifteen years ago, I’ve been translating Scandinavian texts into English – everything from crime and literary fiction, children’s books and cookbooks to design guides, footballer bios and other works of non-fiction. I grew up in Canada, but I have travelled, studied and worked in the UK for more than half of my life, leaving me with a foot in both worlds.

Recent work include the co-translation of the Norwegian fantasy series, The Raven Rings, (Arctis Press), the co-translation of four short stories in Re-Imagining Sexual Harassment: Perspectives from the Nordic Region (Bristol University Press), and Beowulf: The Tragedy Of A Hero. A Reading (U Press, Copenhagen).

Prize nominations include being longlisted for the 2019 Dublin Literary Award for The Sixteen Trees of the Somme by Lars Mytting (also Waterstones Fiction Book of the Month in 2018) and Christina Hesselholdt’s Vivian, longlisted for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation in 2020.

I was the 2025 BCLT Translator in Residence, where I explored how approaches from the world of theatre can enrich translation across literary forms, looking at dialogue with using acting techniques.

As the former chair of DELT (the association of Danish-English Literary Translators), I worked tirelessly with a team of volunteers to promote Danish literature in translation. I now serve on the committee of the UK Translators Association, serving as their CEATL representative.
